The Snow Moon Lit Up the Sky This Week!

Did you look up at the sky this week? If you did, you might have seen a big, bright, glowing full moon shining above the city. This special full moon is called the Snow Moon — and it happens every February.

Why Is It Called the Snow Moon? Long ago, Native American tribes in North America gave names to each full moon. February’s moon was called the Snow Moon because this was usually the snowiest month of the year. Even though we don’t get snow in Singapore, we still use the same name today! Isn’t it interesting that people hundreds of years ago looked at the same moon we see now?

✨ Why Did It Look So Bright? A full moon happens when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon. The Sun lights up the whole side of the Moon that faces us. That’s why it looks round and shiny — like a giant silver coin in the sky. Sometimes the moon also looks extra big when it rises near the horizon. That’s called the moon illusion. It’s a trick your eyes play on you!

🌍 Can We See It in Singapore? Yes! Even in busy cities like Singapore, you can still spot a full moon on a clear night. You don’t need a telescope. Just: • Look up after sunset • Find an open space away from tall buildings • Be patient And there it is — glowing quietly above you.

🧠 WhyPals Fun Fact Did you know every full moon has a name? Some examples include: • Wolf Moon (January) • Snow Moon (February) • Flower Moon (May) • Harvest Moon (September) Different cultures also have their own special moon names!

🌙 Why It Matters The Snow Moon reminds us that even though the world feels busy and noisy, the sky above us stays calm and constant. The same moon that shines over snowy mountains also shines over tropical cities. Tonight, if you can, step outside for a moment. Look up. And remember — you’re looking at something that connects people all around the world.
