Long ago, people moved by walking or riding animals such as horses. This worked well when towns were small and places were close together. But as cities grew bigger, people needed to travel farther to work, visit others, and carry goods.

Horses could only go so far and needed rest, food, and care. Walking took a long time and could be tiring. People began to wonder if a machine could help them move more easily and quickly.

In the late 1800s, a man named Karl Benz built one of the first motor vehicles. Instead of using animal power, his car used an engine to move. This invention showed that machines could help people travel on land in a new way.

The engine made the wheels turn on their own. This meant people no longer needed horses to pull them forward. The car could keep moving without getting tired, as long as it had fuel.

Cars made travelling much faster and easier. Journeys that once took a long time by walking or riding horses could now be done in a much shorter time, without people getting tired along the way.

Cars could also carry heavy things like bags, food, and tools. This meant people did not have to carry everything themselves, making everyday travel simpler and less tiring.

As cars became more common, roads began to change to suit them. People learned how to drive and share the road with others. New signals and signs were introduced to help everyone move safely.

People still use different ways to travel. Walking is useful for places that are nearby, while cars help people reach places that are far away more quickly.

Cars did not only help people move faster. They helped people reach places that once felt too far to go.
