    Have you ever wondered why rainbows always look the same? No matter where you see one, the colors line up in the exact same order: red on top, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet at the bottom. This beautiful pattern happens because of the way light travels through water.

    Sunlight looks white to our eyes, but it's actually made up of all the colors mixed together. When this light passes through tiny water droplets in the air, something magical happens. The light bends as it enters each drop, bounces off the back, and bends again as it comes out.

    Here's the clever part. Each color bends at a slightly different angle. Red light bends the least, so it comes out at the top of the rainbow. Violet light bends the most, so it appears at the bottom. All the other colors spread out in between, always in the same order.

    This bending and spreading of light is called refraction. Scientists have known about it for hundreds of years. The order never changes because the way light behaves never changes. Red always bends less than blue, and blue always bends less than violet.

    Next time you see a rainbow after a rainstorm, you'll know you're watching millions of tiny water drops working together like nature's prism. Each drop splits the sunlight into its secret colors, painting the same beautiful arc across the sky every single time.
