A Very Serious Attack on Bondi Beach

On 14 December 2025, a very serious attack happened at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. People were there for a Hanukkah celebration. Hanukkah is a special Jewish holiday when families and friends come together to light candles, sing songs, and celebrate their beliefs.

While people were celebrating outside, someone started shooting from a bridge near the beach. People became very scared and ran to find safe places. Police and helpers arrived quickly to help anyone who was hurt.

Many people were injured, including children and adults. Sadly, some people lost their lives. One attacker was stopped by police at the scene, and another was caught and taken to hospital. Police also found dangerous items nearby and made sure they were removed safely.

Why did this happen, and why was it called terrorism?

Police are still trying to understand why the attackers chose this place and time. Terrorism is when people use violence to scare many others or to try to force change because of strong beliefs, such as religious or political ideas. Because the attack happened during a Jewish celebration, police said it seemed to be aimed at Jewish people. This is why leaders and police called it a terrorist attack.
